When we imagine or draw an apple it is definitely red. Red on the outside though, only the peel. Red Love apples are red on the inside too. They are not genetically modified, but organic. They are the result of years of experimentation (hybridization between an ancient apple and other varieties) by the Swiss Markus Kobelt.
The plant produces very beautiful pink flowers and can be purchased in nurseries and online.
The fruits are not yet very commercialized in Italy, in fact this year I bought them in Holland (you can find them in Albert Heijn supermarkets). In the near future it will be easier to find them here too because in Trentino Alto Adige many have been planted and sooner or later they will produce as well.
The main characteristic is the richness of anthocyanins and antioxidants, which can be understood from the colour of the pulp.
For cooking purposes, they are perfect for both desserts and fruit salads as they do not oxidise (they do not blacken), so it is not necessary to sprinkle them with lemon juice.
When you cut them in section you will surprisingly find a lighter central part like a flower and instead of a core a star. It is an apple with crunchy pulp, sweet but not very sugary.
